Azmil Munif Mohd Bukhari is the Manager of Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, the first Geopark in South East Asia. He is also a member of Geopark Island Working Group specifically looking into the development of other geopark islands. Prior to this, he worked with a 5-star resort in Langkawi and Ministry of Tourism under the office of Langkawi Tourism Action Council. He has 20 years of experience managing tourism and sustainable development for Langkawi, Malaysia.

He is now attached with Langkawi Development Authority (LADA), the guardian for Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark. He has held various positions in LADA such as Head of Tourism Development, Head of Strategic Promotion, Head of Investment and Business Facilitation and Deputy Head of Delivery Management Office prior to his appointment at Geopark Division.

LADA is the premier agency on the island focusing on developing and promoting Langkawi internationally. The special set up of LADA under the Ministry of Finance has made the island destination management more strategic and far-reaching.

He plays a vital role in implementing Tourism Blueprint that placed Langkawi among the top 10 island and eco-destinations in the world. He successfully spearheaded the island to a new paradigm of tourism segment appealing to high net-worth tourists under the brand of ‘Geopark’. Langkawi in 2017, received 3.67 million visitors with $RM5.9 billion of tourism receipt. The Geopark brand has made Langkawi as the top of mind island and eco-destination in the world!
