Membership Guide

Background Information

  • It was agreed during the IUCN WCC 2012 in Jeju that World Environment Cyber Network of Governance would be launched. The purpose is to build an on-line network among world local governments.
  • Next, with the establishment of a partnership among world local governments, the network will eventually contribute to improving the global environment by sharing best practices, policies, and technologies to tackle a myriad of environmental issues.

How to join the Network

Offline Application
  • Any local governments eager to join the network should fill out the participation form and then submit it to the Environmental Policy Division, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
  • The participation cities and local governments will automatically hold membership as soon as the participation forms arrive and be officially informed later.

The role of the Network

  • It will create a joint mechanism for world local governments to deal with global environmental problems through such powerful tools for generating ideas as on-line forums and seminars.
  • It will help us work together to search for sustainable development strategies and suggest possible solutions for global environmental issues on the local scale such as visiting to the best model cities in terms of environmental protection at home and abroad and exchanging ideas and practices among local governments.
  • Finally, it will encourage membership holders to conduct long-term joint research and development on environmental programs.

Benefits of membership

  • Access to archives in an Environment Network, materials which will include a database of environmental policies, technologies, and scholars' lecture scripts.
  • Members will have the opportunity to exchange best practices with other member cities and local governments regarding solutions to environmental issues.
  • The members are invited to various international events such as forums and seminars held in Jeju.
