On October 8, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province worked with the public and the private sectors to run the Environment Market for Dream in the Jeju Citizen Welfare Town, an area located near the Jeju Regional Government Complex. 30 public institutes and private enterprises participated in the bartering of products and the recycling of resources for the goal of disseminating eco-friendly lifestyles across the island of Jeju.

The market was organized to urge Jeju-based public institutes and conglomerates to lead eco-friendly lifestyles and encourage households to participate in reducing the amount of waste, which would eventually contribute to environmental conservation.

It was a market for sharing where the participants bartered and exchanged used products for their reuse and recycling. The proceedings earned from the selling of donated goods were given to the underprivileged neighbors.

The province ran special booths throughout the event. One of them was to sell a variety of ‘green’ products including those labelled with the Environment Product Declaration (a certificate issued for products with an excellent environmental effect) and with the GR Mark (a certificate issued for exemplary recycled products). The other booth held an exhibit of artworks made with used items, drawing the attention of many visitors.

A provincial official stated that Jeju Province expects that the Environment Market for Dream will help build empathy among the residents on the significance of the recycling of resources and encourage them to naturally put into practice the eco-friendly lifestyles where they can reduce the amount of waste in their daily lives.
