Green Purchase Support Center to open in Jeju Province

The Ministry of Environment (MOE) and Korea Environment Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) announced to hold an opening ceremony of the Green Purchase Support Center on July 8 at Donggwang-ro, Jeju City to spread the culture of green consumption in Jeju.

The Green Purchase Support Center is a regional hub that supports citizens to participate in green product consumption by promoting green products and providing information and education on green consumption. The Jeju Center is the third regional center following Busan and Ansan.

After the opening ceremony, MOE and KEITI will sign MOUs with Korea Federation for Environmental Movement of Jeju, Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Tourism Association, Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Childcare Center Association and Korea Association of Forest Kindergarten Jeju Branch to revitalize green practices.

The Jeju Green Purchase Support Center will develop projects specialized in the region to emphasize the need for green consumption not only to Jeju provincial residents but also to tourists from home and abroad. To this end, the Ministry and KEITI together with Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Tourism Association will support Eco-label Certificate system for tourist accommodations in the region.

In addition, the Center will find and foster local manufacturers and encourage green purchase of private businesses to boost the sale of green products. And, the Center will promote green products through various regional events and offer education on green consumption to homemakers and children.

Kim Yong-joo, President of KEITI, hoped that the culture of green consumption starting form Jeju will spread across the nation, contribution to sustainable development.
