Jeju will provide environmental education to 238,000 residents and tourists. The program offers customized education across the entire life cycle, including infants, students, adults, and visitors.

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has finalized and begun implementing its 2026 Environmental Education Implementation Plan. Approximately KRW 2.7 billion will be invested in 36 detailed projects.

This plan is the first-year implementation plan under the 4th Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Environmental Education Plan (20262030). It focuses on laying the groundwork for creating an environmental education city through public-private-academic cooperation.

The implementation plan consists of four major policy directions:

Strengthening the foundation for environmental education

Transforming school environmental education

Enhancing social environmental education

Strengthening cooperation in environmental education

In the area of strengthening the environmental education foundation, Jeju will establish a sustainable operating base for the environmental education city and expand region-specific content and programs. It also plans to build new education infrastructure for each stage of life, including the creation of an early-childhood climate and environmental education center.

In school environmental education, climate, environment, and ecological transition education linked to the curriculum will be expanded in phases. The province will foster students’ environmental competencies by spreading a culture of climate action and supporting student environmental clubs focused on thematic inquiry.

In social environmental education, Jeju will expand residents’ participation by activating life-cycle-based education and promote sustainable practices through local environmental education governance.

In the area of strengthening cooperation, Jeju will establish new governance for green civilization education to present a new direction for environmental education.

Lim Hong-cheol, Director General of Jeju’s Climate and Environment Bureau, said, “The year 2026 marks an important starting point for the 4th Environmental Education Plan. We will expand effective education so that residents can practice environmental conservation in their daily lives and further strengthen Jeju’s status as an environmental education city.
